strange fuel gauge problem...

    right basically, my fuel guage rarely works properly in my mk2 vts.

    Sometimes it will be working fine, then all of a sudden it will drop right to the bottom and stay there for a while, then go back up.

    And sometimes it will go into a windscreen wiper style, going from full to empty over and over,

    anyone else had a similar problem?

    No idea what it could be

    Disconnect the plug from the fuel sender and see if it does it, if it does then it is the instrument panel which is breaking down (it is repairable), if it doesn't, then it is the sender or the ground at it.

    The only problem doing this test is that the plug for the sender is the same as the fuel pump thus if the problem only occur while driving you wont be able to do this (you could do it by doing some modification, but i wouldn't recommend it)

    fixed it,
    took my dials out, got the circuit board out, and noticed that some of the soldering was broken that was attatching the black female part of the dials plug to the circuit board, soldered it back on and now it works fine
    would explain the intermittant working if the soldering was touching on and off.
