Little problem with Gti-6 brakes

  1. #1
I purchased some (what i thought) where 306 Gti-6 calipers and carriers, Bought some 283mm discs to go with them,

Well went to fit them yesterday and the carriers are about 5/10 mm away from lining up with the holes on the strut because of the disc.

So have i been sold the 266mm version instead? Im not really clued up on this side of things. Any help appreciated

You just need to grind a bit off either the calliper or the strut. It fouls at the top of the carrier and you won't be able to get the top bolt in otherwise.

It's the carrier that wouldn't fit over, so i just grind out some of that? but seems like it would be quite abit to take out.

You need to grind about 5 or 6mm off, only need to take off whats required.

As i say, you can grind the hub or the carrier, or both if you want to remove minimal material.

PS, i'll grind them, fit them and bleed them for £40.

    All GTI6 are 283.

The C4s that use 283 discs are different calieprs to the GTI6

    Oh Jesus Christ.

To the OP, what you have, sir is bought the wrong discs.

If you have the BOSCH calipers and you've bought discs for a GTi6, they won't fit. The GTi6 discs will sit further out from the hub than the ones you need to fit the BOSCH calipers, giving you the exact problem you've described. BOSCH 283mm calipers which were never fitted to the GTi6 but instead came on 206 Gti180 and newer 307's etc.

Kris is right about the grinding, but it only sounds like that's half the problem.
