Engine painting/general fitting a new engine to a car things to do :)

   Hello all, finaly got myself a VTS engine loom etc for the sax. I was thinking while i have it sitting around waiting to go in etc, il be changing the cam belt so i may as well look into cleaning/painting before i put it in...to make a decent job of it.
   
   Any advise on what paint i could use/what i can do and use to clean it (What can i take off without breaking, what product can/cant i use where).
   
   As you can maybe tell, i am yet to have attempted somthing like this so all advise is greatly appreciated!!

   Oh and if this would be better in the engine forum then move please...but i thought that was more performance related than cleaning/styleing

   Yeh should go in Engine really, anyway use Gunk to clean it before painting it

   Everything can come off without breaking it if you take your time and have the correct tools. All depends on your knowledge and skill aswel as patience.
   
   As said above use gunk to get rid of any shit before painting spray it on and make sure to get rid of all crap and grease.
   
   Then give the block a good clean with thinners and wipe it all off.
   
   You have a choice for paints you can eitha use a heat proof primer such as sikkens 1k wash primer then any base coat you like and then a high temp laqure such as sikkens hb clear coat.
   
   Or you can go the enamel route ( caliper paint ) but these only come in the basic form's red/blue/yellow/pink/green.
   
   Have a look at wassys progress thread he has just painted his block green.
   
   Also if you want any sort of decent finish spray the block and dont use a brush The brushed finish looks shit in my oppinion and you may aswell do the job the correct way.

   I used a brush, if you add enough coats and do it well there's no lines in it

   You dont want thick paint on a engine though as the paint flexes less when its thicker so when the blcok expands with heat eventually you will end up with crack's.
