MOT and Radiator fan

   My car failed its MOT yesterday on handbrake needs adjusting, another thing on the sheet was major coolant leak while in emissions test.
   
   The guy said the emissions were fine but the fan didnt come on and the car started to overheat so he had to stop it.
   
   He said he will take a look at it, but i thought couldnt be too bad fan not coming easy fix.
   
   he said now he neeeds an auto electrician to come work on it, but i think this sounds abit shifty, surely it would either be a sensor or thermostat.
   
   Any fixes for the fan? and does this sound right what he saying? i am on a tight budget so dont really want to pay for this if its going to be expensive
   
   Any help appreciated

   Sounds like fan switch to me but i'm sure vtr's are controlled by ECU for fan switch??
   
   Sure someone will correct me if i'm wrong

   I would always re bled the system first, to see if there is air in the system

   The fan would still cut in if it had air in the system mate

   Not always, It didnt' on my 306 when it had air in there and needed re bleding

   Thanks for the replies, i went to the garage to talk about it and decided i would take the car home to get the fan working myself.
   
   Turned out the garage had overlooked the fuses and was trying to say the wires were damaged. New fuses in and it came on straight away saved me alot of money, and embarassed the garage guy i think too.

   just goes to show most garages try and fip you off
