Oil change

  1. #1
Ive just read over MR_P's guide to changing oil and was a cracking guide so im going to attempt my first one tomorrow. Jus one thing though he says in it to jack the front of the car up to do it but i have heard the car needs to be level to do a proper change.. can anybody with a bit of experience shed some light on this? If you've never changed oil before i'd defo recomend reading over his guide makes it seem so simple and straight forward you'd never pay anybody to do it again Cheers

Jack it up to remove sump plug which will release old oil. Put new sump plug in, lower car and remove jack, fill with oil, and check oil level on a level surface.

    Is that what you mean?

on a low car you have to jack it up as you cant fit anything underneath to catch the oil

jack it up at the front on both sides though. when checking the level, check on a level surface

i put mine up on ramps

is the sump plug not on the rear of engine so if front is jacked up you would release slightly more old oil am i correct in saying this

doesnt have to be level to get the oil out just to put new in. obviously if the sump plug is on the front which it very rarely (almost never) is then jacking wont get it out but as its on the back then jacking up will get more oil out.

Sorry may have been asked but how many litres does the VTR late silvertop take? (Assuming each engine has a different capacity?)

I have about 1.8 litres but I don't think that's enough for the job...

nothing like enough mate. i think its like 4ltr of 10w 40 or 5w 40 with a lil bit spare for top ups between service's

Really that much? IIRC that's leftover from my last service (5 litres) - so obviously it isnt enough. Cheers for the input, where's ze cheapest to get some?

anywhere sells oil just depends on how much your willing to spend. iirc shell make halfords oil and comma is made at the same oil refinary as castrol sure some one will correct me if im wrong.
But best bet is to buy the best oil you can afford your engine will thank you.
