50MM Apex lowering springs vs standard dampers??

  1. #1
    Hi guys,

Ive bought some 50mm apex dampers for a bargain! But i've been told by a very reliable source that my new springs need to be used with shortened dampers as they are not a progressive type, which cannot be used with standard dampers...any input? i cant really afford to buy new dampers so maybe ill sell mine if this is the case

Should be okay mate dpeending on mileage on your current shocks?

Put em on if your shocks fuck get new ones? Thats what I did on my last car, was on 100k and I as desperate to lower with not much cash, I bought some Jamex springs and fitted them, a few months later the shocks needed changing so I just replaced them with some KYB gas ones and new top mounts, I still didn't regret lowering though

Have you got a VTR mate, i'm not being funny but i'm sure mine are Apex 50mm, they're yellow and are deffo around 50mm or 60mm, I'll double check the make of em tomorrow but they're on standard shocks as far as i'm aware, i've jacked the car up and down a number of times and hvae had no problems whatsoever, and a pretty decent ride as well.

i dont understand what he means...yea mate its a vtr, well i hope there apex springs, i've been looking and to be honest on another thread someone has asked the same thing and they do need shortened dampers..too much detail to explain!

    Show me a link mate?
Maybe mine are something else or I have shortened dampers as I bought mine like it is and so did the previous owner I think, but he said he thought they were standard shocks?

That doesn't say anything about requiring shortened shocks though?

And also I wouldn't listen to anything in that ad lol, it says springs are included for front and rear, yet since when has a saxo had springs on the rear, and also it says its a 50mm kit, then says "It will usually lower the car by 30-40 mm." :/

lol thats true, ive been researching......There are many kits available to lower up to 60mm on standard struts, any lower than 35mm and shortened uprated shock absorbers must be used. thats on the AlexR suspension guide in the stickes-ah well looks like shortend dampers it is - reading that guide and i realise now what it affects etc

Ah I see mate, maybe mine has shortened dampers through the standard struts. Really not sure though as the back ones deffo look like standard shocks.
