Clutch Bearing???

  1. #1
When i start the car and its sitting idling, or even when im driving, it makes a kinda squealing noise, not as loud as a fan belt causes, but you can hear it.

My dads came through today and had a look, and i showed him, when i put the clutch down so far, it goes away.

He believes this is the clutch bearing? Is he right? Is this an expensive jobby?

    Thanks

A clutch release bearing is £25.

Always worth replacing the whole clutch while the box is off.

    A clutch kit is £100

Gearbox oil around £25 if you dont recycle your exsisting oil.

    Driveshaft seals, £5

If you want someone to do it, then a garage will charge around £110 labour excluding parts.

So looking at roughly £250-£300 but that gives me total peace of mind with brand new clutch and seals etc?

And i got it wrong, he thinks its the Thrust Bearing, not Clutch Bearing, i heard him wrong, lol.
  5. #5
    Thats the one

However, you could have this noise from it for like 5k more miles and the clutch will still operate fine.

If you have the spare money or doing long distance driving then replace it.

If you are skint and dont travel far then I wouldnt worry about it untill it fails completley. You can drive a car with no clutch so it isnt the end of the world if it fails while you are out.

haha but if you drive while the clutch is fucked, i knacks the Gearbox, dont it?
  7. #7
Depends how good you are at catching the gears! The gearbox will cope if you dont crunch it hard, unless the box is on its way out too lol

My mate had to drive for a whole week doing a 35 mile journey to work and back a day with no clutch lol, he got the gears down to a t by the end of the week.

Just a quick update on this thread, ive got a video of the noise my cars makes when its first started up and its idling?

Anyone know if its definitely the thrust bearing? Im gonna look into getting the clutch done soon, so i'd prefer to know if it is the clutch making this noise? As i said, it goes away when i drop the clutch though?

    Thanks

i would say that is definatly the release bearing. mine has been making noise like that for at least the year. still works fine worry when it stops making noise
  10. #10
If you push the clutch in, does the noise disappear? If so, will be the clutch release bearing. Might as well fit a new clutch kit.
  11. #11
mines the same i'm hoping it is the clutch release bearing its been like that for a year and a half lol gonna change the clutch soon
  12. #12
I have had my vtr for just over 2 weeks now and when i got it they said it has just had a new clutch in but i am now thinking they are liars as mine has been doing this same thing.
  13. #13
9 times out of 10 when u put a new clutch in it still squeals.. just one of thos things haha
  14. #14
Ahh good, just the thing is, dont know if its just on my mind, but sometimes it feels like i really have to drag the gearstick into 2nd gear, not like it doesnt go in, just doesnt slide straight in, probably just me exaggerating though ,lol

    Thanks

Eew Wee Mark, even i know that is far too cheap! Looking at around £90-£100 for a decent Valeo Clutch Kit mate, but rather not spend that + Labour for clutch yet, if it can get buy with just the noise?

Haha that and the Induction Kit drown it out a bit, lol.

Definitely sounds like the release bearing. Mine was like that and it was slowly getting worse. I got a new clutch, it still squeaks but i can hardly hear it now
  23. #23
did this to mine aswell, its a common fault of saxo clutches, forks on pressure plate snap and the bearing wears quickly because its not sitting even but there was fuck all wrong with my clutch looked as good as new, i got a clutch kit for 55 pounds just shop around not a hard job to do.

It could be possible that is the wheel bearing. Or another possibility would have to be the fan clutch.

Would never get transmech clutch! Had one on my vts for 1week and blew it to pieces, shredded my crank sensor to bits and made my car cut out. Had to leave it in the rough part of newcastle over night

    Someone help please!

Mine is doing the same thing, pretty sure it's the thrust bearing?
sounds like a whining sound coming from down by the alternator.... i'm pretty sure it's not the alternator belt though coz when i put my foot on the clutch the noise dampens down a bit, but then again my battery light is on now so could be a mix of both??
Has been making this noise for like 4 months now... anyone have an idead of how long it will be untill my clutch rips apart or i need a new alternator??
  32. #32
I've got the same problem, so I've got a clutch kit to fit. You can't really put a time frame on it. Just depends how bad it is. Could go today could go in a few months time. Your best off getting it sorted ASAP.
