Saxo driveshaft differences?

  1. #1
    Hi all,

I've got a W reg (2000) 1.1 Forte, that's knocking loudly from the front O/S wheel when going round corners - so am guessing its the CV joint on the driveshaft that's gone?

Checking the web (and here) seems to indicate there are two kinds, either a flat faced end of shaft type (pre 2000) or a tapered end of shaft (2000 on).

I havn't taken mine off yet, but assuming i have the tapered type, is that all i need to check for when sourcing a replacement? I assume if i get some from a late VTR for example, that they will fit?

    TIA

hello mate, yes i'd already searched the forum before posting, which was where i found there were two different types.

I wasn't querying the difference, i was just double checking if that was the only difference and there was nothing else I had missed before buying some.

I'd seen some late VTR ones and was just checking there was no other differences between VTR's and 1.1 models.

    TIA

    not 100% sure:
i think the 1.1 shafts are weaker. also differences with abs but seeing as your car probably wont have it then i wouldnt worry about that.

also if the 1.1s have the intermediate shaft or not

If you have axle nuts that are about 40mm long its a tapered shaft if they are subby 20mm ones its a non-tapered shaft.

Thanks, this was more what i was getting at.

Perhaps i should look specifically for some off a 1.1 just to make sure there are no nasty surprises that will mean they wont fit!
