As the title says, I am currently doing only 4k a year with no short trips. Should I change the oil and filter twice a year i.e. after only 2k or would once a year be ok?
4k a year - 1 or 2 oil changes?

#2just the once man.

#3once will be fine.
the engine won't fall apart if you dont service it every second of the day, although some people on here will have you think different. -
#4You can get away with once a year really, providing you use good quality oil and the car isn't standing for long periods of time.
You can change it every 6 months though, purely for piece of mind. -
#5Thanks for the advice chaps. I was thinking once would propably be ok

#6regular use and occassional longish runs are the best treatment for an engine, and using a good quality oil and filter once a year is fine, or if you are doing huge mileage per year then change every time you get to about 10/12k

#7personally cause i run a mk2 since buying the saxo for a winter hack last september i did service that as the book says wich is 6000 miles or 6 months witch ever is first. i never got to 6000 miles i've had it 3 yrs now and not ever got to 10K lol. but now i'm running the saxo aswell i followed on that of service every 6 months regardless of miles (very rare i'd do more than 4K) cause i am a mechanic it is a full service every 6 months but it bearly costs me anything cause i do it at work and only have to pay for the oil and air filters.
but i'd do it every 6 months personally just a piece of mind if you ever come round to selling. -
#8I could always compromise and alternate between oil only and oil+filter every six months

#9I change the oil and oil filter every 6 months just over, doesnt cost much.
