    Hi guys

im in urgent need of your wisdom,

my 98 vtr is stranded at my girlfriends house, every now and again when i unlock the car (remote locking) ill turn the ingnition on and the immobiliser light will come on and the cra wont start, normally ill lock and unlock it a few times and it works and starts fine, but today it wont start,

iv heard you can turn off the immobiliser? how do i do this?

im shite at searching so sorry if its been covered.

take the battery off for a 10 mins
    if not
the immob is a black box.
it can vary in places ive seen,
    under the steering column
    or behind glovebox.

okay nice one, how do i disconnect it then?, just unplug or is there a more complicated way?

Are we taking about an after market immobiliser? if so it is more or less easy to disconnect, as the previous post suggested you need pretty much first to find the immo box.

    no its standard mate

disconnect power of battery and then 10 mins put back on
    and try that.

    if not
    removing the immob
    just pull it out
its on a clip but just push/pull then pull the box
    easy

your suppose to remove the immob box when the car is running though, not sure what it will do if you remove it when not running.

thanks bud will do it tomoz.

does the battery for the key fob make a difference in the case of it not unimmobilising the engine, its only cos iv noticed the connection is shite and the range is ridiculously small?

yea sounds like the immobilisers playing up just make sure the car is running when you take it off mate or it can lock the ecu and thats not a cheap fix,

    Hi,

Right the central locking system is actually a different system in your car the problem is just the immobiliser which uses the transponder chip in the key, thus as other member have advised try to get it started and disconnect the immo box, if the car won't start then the ECU needs to be unlock, if this is the case I can sort that out for you but you would need to send the ECU to me,

    Regards
    Daniel.
