144ft/lb clutch slipping

  1. #1
Basically now I'm running my gripper and r888s i cant spin the wheels so my clutch just gives up and slips instead as im powering out of bends

Can i do something like a paddle friction plate in my valeo pressure plate or is it a whole new clutch time

Never looked at paddle clutches as everyone said i wouldnt need one but now i need one quick so im asking you lot
  2. #2
I run a standard cover, with an AP 4 paddle clutch with a sprung centre. It can withstand my constant thrashing so I would say its a pretty good setup.
  3. #3
So i can do that then

Found the friction plate on spoox but 220 quid ouch lol
ill shop about for one lol
  4. #4
yep alex, i reckon a standard pressure plate and uprated friction plate should do the trick.

i am using the OMP group N one, seem good for me, but i am also using the OMP pressure plate too.

im sure a helix 4/6 paddle clutch would be cheaper than that.. get some pm's out to atspeed/gmc etc.
  8. #8
doubt it make any diff to you since it's already happened but I had 145f;b running through mine

Helix 6 paddle is 190 quid

Ill message a few companies tomorrow

I am pretty sure you will have issues but should get what you want in the end. YB racing are probably the cheapest for the clutch plates. You just need to know the code of one for a saxo.

Come to us for OMP stuff. I would recommend an uprated clutch pressure plate if you are planning on doing a lot of hard acceleration from standstill. This is where the most strain on the system will be. Once moving theres less stress on the components.

I have the full OMP system, seem to be doing me well, I know more after tomorrow see how it holds up.

What about an unsprung friction plate
I know itll snatch on bite would it be too much daily i stop at 3 junctions on the way to work so traffic creeping ect im not fussy on
  15. #15
You need a 4 paddle for 144lbs of torque, pathetic

    see my facebook reply.

no need to spec a race clutch for a road car. but even if i say a sprung 6 paddle clutch would be your best bet theres a good chance you will ignore what i say. so jus do what you want

Main thing atm danny is cost but if saving 150 quid makes it undriveable then its not worth saving

I dont know the ins and outs of clutches as far as i was told id be fine with a valeo and now cause of that ive no idea what im looking at

this is all you really need alex..

im running a helix 4 paddle with unsprung plate on a dailly, stopping regular at lights on hills etc, took me a week or two and can drive it just the same as i could a stock clutch, is bitch snatchy if your aggressive though
  25. #25
Think ill try the omp one fella danny seems pretty confident itll work
but thanks for that one if the omp is no good then ill get an unsprung paddle there half the price of sprung
  26. #26
What sort of power/torque can those 4 paddle clutches handle?
  27. #27
Cerametallic paddle plate will take the heat of hard use much better (organic material fades away) and with good condition OE cover is fine for any N/A TU, we've used the same 200mm plate with 170lbft and supersoft slicks on XU engines with no bother. Uprated covers often lead to high cable wear and MA clutch lever failures we've found and snappier/less pleasant to use.

Yer I had to straighten my arm, A's it just used to bend round on me.

Not too bad though, once you get use to it.
  29. #29
Yea guys this is something else as danny snapped his clutch release bearing forks off a few years back
Definatly dont want to be doing that

Im getting confused as to which friction plate i need now as sandy says paddle danny the omp isnt andys using an omp of some form least i know unsprung is a bit shitty on a rlad car

The OMP one is 4 paddle plate, I have the one with springs and also use the omp cover too.
