Gearbox Oil Leak :(

  1. #1
    Hi guys,

Whilst adjusting exhaust springs (cause they keep squeaking lol) I noticed drips of gearbox oil on the box, its deffo gearbox oil as it smells like it. I took some pictures of it. Anyone know what it could be? I did change the gearbox oil about 6 months ago if that makes any difference.

    Cheers,

Thats most likely your driveshaft oil seals

    Cheers for the reply m8.

I did have a look at the driveshafts both seem ok. It looks like its coming from the arm with the split pin in it. I remembered that I changed the pin (wobbly gearstick problem) and its done it ever since. Is there a seal or washer that goes in-between the arm and pin from the box?

    Thanks,

    Kurt

Any help with this guys? Where the shafts go in are bone dry, no leaks. Its just that top selector seems to be leaking? Is it a box off job?

    Cheers,

unless you have far too much gear oil in there you shouldn't be getting oil out of there??. Ive rebuilt a few boxes and dont remember there being much of a seal on it, sure it was just a plastic bush but i cant remember.

Thanks for the reply m8. Does seem a bit weird and doesnt seem like its coming from anywhere else. I've cleaned the box now so I will able to see where its deffo coming from. I'm replacing the passenger driveshaft 2morro should I get a driveshaft seal as well?

    Cheers,

I had this problem for a while, stank of gearbox oil (Garlic ish smell). Few days later my gearbox pretty much imploded at the goodwood festival of speed :'(.

New gearbox going in today though

Yes there is a small seal where the selector goes into the box so could be that.

from the pics.. the outside of the gearbox must be cracked.
