Fuel Consumption

  1. #1
    Hi,

Dont know if you can help ... but I brought my Saxo a couple of weeks ago and finally got it on the road on Tuesday. I thought I would see what MPG it does. So I filled up to half a tank. I have done 100 miles and it just come to the top of the reserve. Now I work that out to be 20mpg!!!

Its a 2000 Furio 1.4. Surely I should be gettting about 35 - 40 at least? Does anyone know any common problems with these etc. I was hoping that it was going to be quite cheap to run .... but maybe not. It has had a service bar plugs and fuel filter, which I will do tomorrow.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Many Thanks

    Tom

that does seem quite high consumption for a furio, I think a dead lambda sensor can make it run rich and maybe a map sensor, im not totally sure though ur probably best going to get it code read or you might end up throwing away money buying the wrong parts

Will the codes show up if the engine management light hasn't been coming on?

No codes will show if no problem mate and if it was your lamba your eml would come on

EML might not be triggered with a 2000 model single lambda saxo. If I am correct the later 3 plug, cat in downpipe cars, have 2 lambdas. The second one is basically keeping an eye on the emissions and if detects high levels will signal the ecu to turn the EML on.

As mentioned above look at MAF and lambda first. Must be running pretty badly getting through that much fuel. Have you checked for leaks as well mate?
