can anybody on here let me know how to stop my saxo vtr engine from pinking? its seriously annoying me! cheers
saxo pinking?

#2some one mentioned pinking on a thread i made. What does is mean mate ?

#3these may have a knock sensor, swap it out with a good one. If still doing it could be a broken wire on the knock sensor wiring.
If fuel dose is light this can give detonation on medium high loads - sometimes Mass Airflow meter.
Aternatively AIR leaks around the MAP saensor - Airbox/air inlet manfold - so extra air in but not measured - so wrong fuel dose (too muck air not enough fuel)
Dont drive it as it will wear big end, little end, break rings, etc -
#5me neither, but just a different word for a term i have heard lol.Quote:
Knocking (also called knock, detonation, spark knock, pinging or pinking) in spark-ignition internal combustion engines occurs when combustion of the air/fuel mixture in the cylinder starts off correctly in response to ignition by the spark plug, but one or more pockets of air/fuel mixture explode outside the envelope of the normal combustion front. The fuel-air charge is meant to be ignited by the spark plug only, and at a precise time in the piston's stroke cycle. The peak of the combustion process no longer occurs at the optimum moment for the four-stroke cycle. The shock wave creates the characteristic metallic "pinging" sound, and cylinder pressure increases dramatically. Effects of engine knocking range from inconsequential to completely destructive. It should not be confused with pre-ignition (also discussed in this article). -
#6Adjust your tappets, replace your knock sensor, use Shell V-Power.

#7ok so where is this knock sensor then and i'll change the damn thing?, but surely the ecu should sense something is wrong and show the management light?
-
#8Pinking is detonation.
It is the combusting of the fuel a fraction too early.
Instead of blowing the piston down and turning the crank around - the fuel is being ignited while the piston is on the way up (too early) - the exploding fuel tries to blow the piston backwards and unchecked its very damaging.
Another reason for pre ignition is a carbon build up on the cylinder head - this can be glowing red from the previous ingition cycle and the heat on this carbon deposit can ignite your fuel when IT wants not when the spark says. -
#9yeah i know what pinking is...i just wanna know why its occurring?, as surely the ECU management system should sort the timing out always.
-
#10It wont sort out a slipped belt or a faulty ECU or faulty coil pack or incorrect plugs though..

#11Try going to a different petrol station, mine use to do it and i could never work it out, when i changed my plugs the tips were red,it was fuel additives.
Super store petrol ,its a no no .
