I also had the passenger side drive replaced so does that knock out the cv joint idea? Could it be the wheel bearing?

why do you want a pic with the hub off, you don't need to remove the hub,
just remove the driveshaft Nut and the bottom ball joint, maybe the drop line and track rod end bolt and just pull the strut out of the driveshaft.

And how will i tell if its the bearing thats gone?
  5. #5
check for play first with the wheel on if not do as above remove drive shaft and spin the hub buy hand and see if the bearing is rough or tight in turning

Yes there is play, but only about 2 to 3mm when my hands are at 12 o chlk and 6 shakeing the wheel.. Could the bearing have gone so far that its starting to rub non stop, its quiet loud the noise from it!

only need a lil bit of play and if its noisey will fail mot on it so may aswell get it sorted and see if it sort ur problem

Thats the ting it went thru the test and dindnt fail on any bearings only the back offside.. Where does that leave me?

Either way you need to replace the wheel bearing....unless you dont mind the wheel falling off eventually.

so replace that and see if that cures your problem or not.

Yes i suppoze.. Il do it 1st thing friday morning! But when i got my car lowerd on the front the noise went for about a month or so and then came back, the mechanic said he tightend the cv joint.. Has anyone got a roof price on a cv joint as my local shop wants 130..
  12. #12
Just get another driveshaft. Check euro carparts or eBay for another shaft.
  13. #13
I got a new shaft about a month ago and its still the same.. So does that definetly knock out the cv joint? So it has to be the bearing?

    ????????
  15. #15
sure you got the rite drivshaft as there is 2 types

also front wheel bearing are hard to fail on mot as when you spin them up cause of the drive line you can't always know if it wheel bearing or box and you should of atleast got an advisory for the front having play
  16. #16
Yes its the right drive shaft as the shop took my reg to make sure on the numbers.. No the test center never mentioned it to me and i was suprized when it didnt say on the sheet that it didnt fail on anything what so ever on the front, and the tester had a nice spin to hear it as my the test center here is very big.. So you guys all wreckon its the wheel bearing?? Its not really a knocking noise more like a hard gruby rubbin..

Could take it to a garage and get them to diognose it, pretty hard to judge this from behind a computer screen.

Thats true too but i put my faith in you guys...
  19. #19
just cause you gave them the reg dont mean you would of had the right one especially as yours by your avatar is a 2000 which i believe is on the cross over
