Strange noise when reversing

    Hi guys.

When I reverse the car now it makes a horrid rattling grinding noise. Doesn't do it all the time just when driving to work and reversing in to a space.

It sounds maybe like the exhaust is rattling but why would this be in reverse?

Imabout to fit all new exhaust rubbers n hope this may help.

I dont believe it's the gearbox as it drives fine and the noise is central in the car

Mine used to do this at certain revs when driving, it wen away when i replaced the center mount though

Centre exhaust rubber or an engine mount? My car has developed a slight shudder when starting and turning off

ive got this 2 it sounds like its coming from the back end of the car somewhere but not a 100 % sure wer.. its definately behind me anyway nothing to do with gearbox for sure

Next time it happens try taking it out of reverse and back in? Only reason is that I have noticed it doesn't want to go into reverse sometimes, and when I try to move the car stays still but makes a noise like the one you decribed... to me it sounds as if it is only partially in gear. I have heard this is common...

It is around the centre of the car. Definitely is t a mis selected gear.

It's the exhaust catching I'm sure of it. Gonna replace all rubbers

Firstly, I don't do the said j turns....I turn around normally.

Secondly, I don't go to mcdonalds let alone hang around in the car parks.

Thanks for being so helpful though
