Guide for changing camshaft?

  1. #1
I'm changing the camshaft on a VTR for a Newman variant next weekend, a quick guide would be extremely useful as i havent worked on these engines massively before?

As far as im aware, remove the cambelt and rocker cover as per any vehicle, take the bearing tops off and take the camshaft out?

However i keep hearing rumours that the cylinder head has to be removed to 'slide' the camshaft out the head, so it cannot be changed in situe on top of the head?

Somebody must be able to offer some advice on here?

    Thanks in advance

Yup it's a head off job

Some people say you can bodge it by lifting the engine up on an angle, but seeing as the rocker assembly is all held on by the head bolts which you'll have to undo, it really is easier to just take off the head

Hmm i guess i'll have to tell the owner the bad news that he needs to remove the head lol, only came off last month for new valve guides. Still at least everything should be nice and free

Anymore tips or 'watch out for' pointers on this job?

definatley a head off job, as you have to remove the lifters in order to slide the cam out.

when doing mine, just remember to put the cam seal on first as i forgot

fairly easy though mate especially if you have worked on engines before, the saxo engines are fairly simple.
