Cat/mani for MOT

  1. #1
Car failed its MOT for emissions, basically the lamda sensor rusted a hole in the down pipe from the cat in the mani so gases were escaping

I need a whole new cat as the down pipe is attached but i was thinking if im spending the money id want a decent manifold not another standard one

Now, can i get a 4-2-1 manifold, and then attach a VTS cat under the car purely for the MOT, would this work? As in attach and pass a vtr on emissions

    Cheers

IS THE FURIO CAT THE SAME AS THE VTR?

    Also
    Will a mk2 furio cat fit a mk2 vtr?

Your current saxo vtr system would not attach onto a VTS cat (or MK1 VTR) because it would be too long.

You would need: aftermarket manifold, VTS cat, then a cat back for VTS models.

I personally went for a replacement cat and mani (STD) and thn cat back after that.

With regard to the furio I believe it should fit, get second opinions though.

Aren't the cat back systems the same?
Think I'll just buy the furio cat as long as it fits

i had a (std) downpipe & cat fitted in march £137.50 :O cost me £530 to get through m.o.t ouch haha

No, as the cat on vts's and older vtr's is under the car the link pipe is shorter as it only goes to the cat. A newer cat back the link pipe goes all the way from mani to backbox, so is much longer.

I can get the whole centre section from the vts... And they are the same overall length

So from manifold to back box are they the same length?

Yeah the systems are the same length overall but the different locations of the components makes it break down differently. If you acquired the whole VTS system and coupled with an aftermarket mani then you have the right idea.

    i have a mk2 vtr cat/mani in good condtion here, £45 delivered,

and as for the vts cat under car youd need the full centre section, might find the vtr under car cat/centre will be cheaper though

Will A $-2-1 mani Pass MOT.. Or Am I Being Stupid... As I Am Having Mine Fitted Tonight.. And It Also Need An MOT Soon!
  11. #11
On a mk2 vtr a 4-2-1 mani will not pass the MOT, as there is no cat

I can get a free vts centre section, so if i buy an aftermarket mani, attach to the vts centre section and then have my standard back box
Then after MOT i can replace the centre section with a supersprint straight though to decat it

    OR

Replace the cat, can get a second hand cat with 2 lamda sensors for 30 quid (and postage)
BUT is a furio cat the same as a vtr cat?

    BUMP

Is the furio cat the same as a vtr?
  13. #13
Sorry for bump, need to know for tomorrow

As far as I can see, as long as the 1.4 cat is under floor and hasn't got a hole for a lambda sensor after the cat, it should be the same. If it has got a hole then i assume a splice and extension of the post cat lambda sensor will be required.

I used this site for reference

It's the one in the mani not under the car mate and there's a lamda after the cat

I'm presuming there's only 2 cats on saxos - 1 under car and 1 in mani

Just wana know if there's any variation in the mani cats
  16. #16
Looking at the specs on that site, the mani cats are different. The VTR one is 540mm long and the 1.4 one is 610mm long.

    Fuck
I'll get the tape measure out tomorrow

blackie_2k5 if you still have it i dont suppose it comes with the lambda sensors does it ?

You asked if there was any variation in the closed coupled cats (ones in the manifold) when comparing the VTR and 1.4. They are different in length so I would assume you couldnt use a 1.4 closed coupled system on the VTR. If you went down the route of putting a 4-2-1 or 4-1 mani on, decatting your VTR, you would require an underfloor cat for the MOT which there is some crossover between models

    Cheers for that mate!

Could have wasted time and money lol
