Wheel bearing

Ive got some spare struts I was thinking about putting on my car to lower it so I can just keep the originals standard for easy transfer anyway I thought i'd have a go at changing the bearings as one of them has alot of play so I knocked the hubs off with a socket and hammer they came off ok but the bearings have split in half so half of the bearing is stuck on the hub and half on the inside of the strut.. is there any easy way of getting them off? cheers

best way of getting the bearings in and out is with a press, to get the half off the hub,the best ways are either with a puller or gently grind the race with an angle grinder until it splits and comes off the hub easily them. Press the outer race out of the hub and press new bearing in.

I put a lot of heat on the out side of the hub and then used a hammer and wide chisle and brutaly nocked out the inner half LOL!

put a big enough socket which fits over the inside of bearing.
    then bash.
    easy

see how much a garage would charge to press the old one out and then press the new one in, might be an option

Not sure if this works but i was speaking to a guy who works on big plant stuff the other day and he said they run a weld round the inside of bearings when when want to take them out. Apparently when they cool the weld makes them contract a bit making them easy to tap out. Want one of my bearings to go now so i can try it.

Don't use an angle grinder on the hub, use a blunt edge or large chisel and tap it all around using a like a clock afce style and it will pop off once it start moving, the large socket and the 3lb lump hammer will remove the other half from thre strut, you can replace the same way, but support the inner race with a socket of same size, most garages will press it out for free as only tales 5 mins or less if you take them the strut in and they don't have to strip it down, I also advise if lowering change the wishbone arms at same time so that you ahve new bushes and joints

Before I forget change them both, because as sure a schickens lay eggs once you've done 1 the other side will follow

Got the bearings out today with the socket and lump hammer method, was pretty easy once they got moving, just need to get some new bearings now, may take them to the garage to get them pressed in though as i don't want to damage the new bearings! thanks for all the suggestions
