will a Mk1 front end fit on a MK2?

  1. #1
    Hey all,

I've currently got a 1999 MK1 VTR and a 2001 MK2 VTR but I prefer the MK1 front end far more. Starting to gain that retro chic look, imo

Anyhow I'm just wondering if anyone knows how easy it is to put the MK1 front on the MK2. I have all parts I think I need (wings, slam panel, bonnet, lights).

    Is it just bolt on/off?
Any welding needed E.G slam panel?
Wiring for the lights, is it the same?
Etc, any other tips or info would be much appreciated.

Some of you may ask "Why bother?"
The MK1 is being mainly used for spares on the MK2 as the engine is Fu***d. And I love the look, eh, maybe it's just me

    Thanks in advance!

Any idea what I need to adapt?

    Is it welding?
Or just a little trimming and stuff to find the hole, so to speak

cant say for sure, but it has been done a couple of times. a bloke with a mauritius blue one did a small guide on it

ive seen it done a few times on here, just search for it and you should find a few threads about it

you just change the slam panel i believe, no welding is involved

Rodney on here did this. He put a MK1 front end on his MK2. The slam panels needs a small adjustment with welding, and the rest is just bolt on.

    Just need:

    Slam Panel
    Wings
    Bonnet
    Lights
    Grill.

    Then your all set!

You don't have to weld it, you can just bolt it, how ever you want to do it.

you will have to spot weld a little piece onto the chassis legs in order to bolt the slam panel to it. The Mark 1's slam panels are shorter then mark 2 due to the head lights so the there will be no where to bolt in the slam panel.

Here is a picture of the piece I am on about from a Mark 1. I had to cut this off when I put a mark 2 slam panel on it. So you will need something like it in order to fit a mark 1 slam panel.

Excellent, thanks for the pic Matty!

I Think I understand, basically I need to weld some small pieces on to the ends of my MK1 slam panel to make it slightly longer in order to weld/bolt it to the chassis legs?

    Thanks

Just found the thread of you changing your MK1 front to a MK2. I can see that you had to grind off some parts in order to make the MK2 front fit. So I just have to weld on some metal to extend my chassis arms in order for the MK1 front to fit?

    Thanks again
