airbag & seatbelt pretensioner cable

  1. #1
    Alright lads,

My VTR MK2 airbag light is on, I've checked the orange cable under the DRIVERs seat and the cable is frayed in at least three places, its also very short. Because of the length I can't cut out the damaged bits and reconnect. Any ideas how best to fix this? Can you buy these types of cable?

    Thanks

Could you get some more wire and connect the original wire with it using block connectors?

You can buy another belt buckle which comes with the wiring, like this:

will that fit? cos Ive heard when putting 106 seats in a saxo you have to swap them over

I've noticed 'broken' wire goes under the floor so either way i'm going to have to do some kind of solder/hot air gun connection.

Problem is though you can't see from the picture but the wire is very short, almost stopping the seat sliding back all the way. So I definitely need more wire or an extension of some kind.

The connections between the existing wiring coming from the floor and the belt buckle need to be the same to plug in to each other. I think they changed them in 2000 onwards models, so as long as you get one from a car from the same year, it will fit, regardless of whether its from a 106 or saxo. Don't quote me on that though lol.

Not sure why the wire is so short. In mine the seat is allowed to slide all the way back/forward with plenty of spare wire.

You can't really see it in the picture but the wire looks as if it has been melted back together previously, and on the bottom it looks like its been chewed by rats

Maybe someone else has had a go at repairing it, shortened the cable, then snapped it again.

Thanks for the advice tho lads, will try and sort it out this weekend.

can't u just go snip one off a saxo in the scrappy and connect that to it?

Go to a scrappy take up the carpet & remove the wires from the airbag ecu(unplug)then you`ll have a complete wiring loom to be able to plug into your existing set-up(after unplugging & removing the damaged wires)
