Are 1.1 gearboxes weaker than VTR.. I suppose I'm asking can I fit it in my VTR or are there problems?
1.1 gearbox in a VTR
-
#1
-
#2straight fit.. just keep your original VTR clutch..
Slightly weaker Diffs.. but mines been on for 30k and its had its fair share of abuse.. still perfect.. definitely better acceleration.. but motorways get annoying.. 3.5k@70mph or 4k @ 80mph. -
#3Ahh brilliant.. just what I needed to hear! The ratios look pretty much the same as the 1.4 xsi which are just right I might even see 5th gear on a sprint now
-
#4Yeah, they are pretty close.. and the revs drop down less on upchanges.. so straight back onto the powerband
-
#5to save you searching.. the box tops out at 125 @ 6250rpm in 5th.
And reaches 100mph in 4th @ 6500 for quarter miles =] -
#6i put 1 of these in mine and i gotta say its 1 of the worst things ive done , you could be doing 70mph in 5th doing around 4k rpm , best off keeping with wat u got
-
#7^ whys that a bad thing?
-
#8^ fuel price?
BTW VTS BOX'S FTW -
#9If fuel prices were an issue, I dont think he would be using his car as a track car or compete in competitions in it.
Im going to put a VTR gearbox in my car now for the hill climbs as the fuel prices have gone up
-
#10I'm fortunate enough to have a trailer for events..so travel costs are such an issue although I do use it to go to work most days but I never get above 30mph

1.1 gearbox seems a good cheap option as 3rd's whining at the moment -
#11go 1.1 if ur not bovard about the practical fuel consumption side of things buh if your not 1.1 or 1.3 raylle ftw
-
#12I loved 1.1 box on both my 8v and 16v engines, and regardless of what people say, if you have some mechanical sympathy, they won't just disintegrate/blow into a million pieces etc.
1.1 box is a good comprimise for a road/track car, but for a primarily track car, i'd probably be looking at something a little bit shorter TBH, S1/S2 Rallye, or XSi.
