What parts are needed and modificafions to do a BE conversion on saxo. Thinking of doing this to mine soon and start getting the parts to do so.
BE gearbox conversion

#2BE box - ebay, £150
complete custom shafts - new (from northern racing or atspeed about £650 all in inc cv joints etc)
correct hubs/flanges to suit shafts
intermediate bearing carrier - Citroen, £80
be gearbox mounts - Northern Racing, £150, atspeed, £350
modified linkages - mod your own or buy some pre done.
modified clutch cable - £45, Northern Racing.
(normally) different speedo drive. £70 (ouch) from Citroen.
In July I'll have my shafts available - somewhere around the £500 mark.
I've got a set of modified linkages you can have for £25.
Re gearbox itself, you want a picasso 1.6 petrol box.
You'll need early type (flat) hubs/flanges on your car. Change them if you haven't already got these.1 user thanked this post: -
#3I was thinking of making the shafts smaller by cutting them down and rewelding them but maybe bore them out and fit a bar into the bored ends before rewelding for extra strenght.
-
#4Ross are your shafts home-made welded jobbies or are they the atspeed style ones?
Im very interested
-
#6Does anyone know what is needed to make the standard shafts fit (length wise). Is it just being made shorter? And by how much?
-
#7there is a thread on here somewhere i think by tweeqd explaining what needs to be done1 user thanked this post:

#8also need to relocate the power steering or remove.
Also ross, whats the price on the complete ready to fit shafts alone, already done the hubs, carrier etc -
#9Good catch - forgot about that.
Think they work out at about £650 all up - mine will be for sale in July for about £550 ish (just as soon as we get back from Germany).Quote:Also ross, whats the price on the complete ready to fit shafts alone, already done the hubs, carrier etc
Best person to speak to if you're after a new set is Titch308. If you want mine (They'll have a max of 2,000 miles on them by then) shout and we'll sort something out.
-
#10why the sell? and i may be in contact soon then.
-
#12Ross, would theyre be any chance of finding out the lenghts of the driveshafts?
Im guessing to make the standdard BE ones to fit saxo/106 would be on drivers side to take the lenght from the part which sits behind the engine before the cv joint? -
#13edit - here is that thread mate http://www.saxperience.com/forum/sho...d.php?t=349761
but having read this it looks like the miltek manifold fouls the be box when fitted - ma it is for me then
-
#14it shouldnt do? takes no more space near the mani than a MA,
Ross - Would i be interested in the "in the making" shafts? -
#15will be interesting to see if it does? will have to find somebody using it and ask for some measurements then compare to standard
-
#16If you take a good birds eye picture of the mani with slighly engine and gearbox in there, ill have a look for ya
-
#17will do it when i get the car haha
or ill see if i can find a pic online somewhere -
#18Few pics i found quickly

#19depending on the turbo you use you might just get away with it
you might have to cut off the lugs on the box that mount the slave cyl
you can see them under my turbo here

better pic here on a 16v lump
-
#20ahh yeah i see, these lugs are not in use as not running a slave cylinder, so that few inches may help, will have to get hold of a be box and try it i suppose, only way, or get some measuremets
-
#21Ah yer forget you use viagra, yer as above just remove some of the casing to make the room, its ony larger due to the clutch cyclinder mounts and you dont need these. And Dean/Colin seem to do ok with there massive setup.
-
#22ill get some better pics and measurement on mine tomorrow when i get back from janspeed
-
#23thanks martin, much appreciated
-
#24pics for reference on the lugs (im going to be cutting them off so i can move the turbo over away from the alternator)

-
#25thats great thanks
so you basically have about 4 inches of be box infront of the block, and you can grind away just under 2 inches of slave cylinder fixings by the looks, it all helps, will have to have a measure when i get mine
many thanks martin - very helpful!! -
#26Ive trimmed all the lugs off mine, doesn't take up anymore room the a MA now.1 user thanked this post:

#28You don't need them as you say - once you go to a big clutch you're running hydraulic anyway:Quote:Ah yer forget you use viagra, yer as above just remove some of the casing to make the room, its ony larger due to the clutch cyclinder mounts and you dont need these. As you can see, my mount we've made in a way that doesn't use those mounts a it's a pull type so cut them off if you're limited on space
-
#29Ross, how much work is it to run hydrolic clutch setup?
