Hub/ shaft problem?

  1. #1
Ok so I have a mk2 v reg forte (registered 2000). I replaced the ns driveshaft not long ago and gave the reg to get the correct shaft. Not long after replacing it I noticed the ns wheel bearing was shot. So I got that replaced and the wishbone at the same time, yet 3 bearings later the problem still persists

After closer inspection it would appear that the shaft is not the correct one. i.e. the hub is tapered and the shaft isn't. Must be some difference in shafts between the mk1 and mk2???

I don't want to take the shaft out because the gear box oil aint cheap stuff as you know and is a bugger to put back in. so is it possible to replace the hub for a non tapered type?

    phew

You can jack the car up on one side and then remove the shaft, Get the car to a decent angle (about 30/40 deg) then all the oil will flow to other end of box thus allowing you to remove it without it spilling out. Do it all the time on rally car

gess its new drive shaft then. but out of interest is it possible to change the hub?
