Oil Leak

  1. #1
    Hi,

Recently bought a Saxo VTR 2000 Silvertop and it appears to have developed a few problems,

1, is an oil leak where the gearbox joins the engine

2, This is broken and I'm not sure what it is?

Also when in gear, if I gently press the accelerator there is a knock that goes in time with me accelerating and the gear stick moving, any suggestions?

I also think the CV joint on the passenger side is screwed as on full lock turning right there is a grinding noise and also a slight bang (maybe top suspension struts as well?)

I would also like to replace all the bushes on the car, any places that could supply them all for a decent price?

And would anyone know of a good place in Bedfordshire or near to get my windows tinted? I want the back 3 maybe 70% and front 2 30% maximum

    Cheers,

    Dave.

    Hey, welcome to the forum.

Firstly, it looks like you probably need a new driveshaft oil seal for the gear oil leak.

Secondly, the broken pipe is to do with the oil breather setup, i would advise you fix it, just to tick things off the list.

The knock, you probably have a knackered engine mount, failing that you may have some play in a lower arm.

With the cv joint.... it'll clunk repetedly as you accelerate on full lock.

If you're in need of a competetive and competent mechanic then drop me a message

    Can't edit posts :-(

Could the unknown item be glued back together?

    Cheers :-)

So the knock, IE the one when I accelerate is an engine mount possibly.

What about the one on full lock? as there is definitely a knock along with grinding on full lock

    Cheers

Most likely not, it's bound to break again.

You'll be best getting another pipe from a scrayard or second hand from here.

It's difficult to diagnose the knock over the internet, i'm one of those guys who prefers just to have a look and get a diagnosis 100% right. Things to check would be balljoints, play in the shock, lower arms, steering rack.

Also the engine breather, do you happen to know what that specific part is called or an item number?

    Cheers for that a.

Time to hit the scrappy and then buy me some new seals.

Also thanks for the offer of helping etc, I generally do all the work myself except for tyres.

If its the drive shaft seal, gear oil has a stronger smell than engine oil.
And if you have lost engine oil i dont think the knocking is a engine mount etc.

Is the Drive Shaft Seal the same as a Diff Oil Seal?
