Wobbly gear stick.

  1. #1
    Hey Guys.

This didn't really hit me at first, but I noticed I have a really wobbly gear stick. It almost seems like I have to reach a mile to get the car into second from first. The car goes into all gears fine it just seems like I move my arm an awful lot to get it there. This wasn't an issue untill I drove my mates saxo and found out I could change gear just by using my fingers alone. His was a forte mines a vtr. Is this why? Could someone clarify what this is? Gear linkages etc?

    Thanks

There is a link / ball swivel near the bulkhead , down the back of the box.

It lookes like a black golfball - and is a square round.

It is open to weather and contaminates. Although it has a shroud cover over it.

These can be wahshed and DRY LUBED with Dri Slide or Rocol Dry Lube paste - if a good size. and not too worn

Sounds like yours is shot - get a fresh one and dry lube it. like I did last week

I have the same problem. First of all, I've ordered a quickshift. But while waiting for it, I've jacked up the car and found that the "black ball" needs refitting.
And finally iI've started to refit the ball and found that the ball is not the main problem(although it is worn too). The main problem is where one of the linkages connects to the gearbox. Selector lever "outer part" is secured on the gearbox part with the pin. And the main play is exactly there, but i can't understand how to fix it.

PS sorry for bad english, but i hope you'll be able to understand my post J

its all done from underneath, you might want to run it up on a set of ramps....
