loss of power steering

   hi, just bought a saxo vtr mk1. The power steering is on and off sort of thing. It will either start off by working then stop then start again, or other way round. Does any body have any ideas to what could be the problem and any solutions please, thanks. ( o and i checked the power steering fluid and its NOT EMPTY)

   Power steering pump or relay most likely common fault on these

   what is relay?? an u think i need new pump?
   and what do you mean lecky or mech?

   Altenater mate.. Hapend my vtr and it kept knockin in and out.. Get a free test from halfords and i bet you its the alt...

   how can it be the alternator? it has nothing to do with the power steering well to my knowledge it dont : /

   if alternator isn't putting out enough charge then the power steering is the first electrical system to fail as it draws loads of current

   but wouldnt that affect the the engine starting aswell not enough power to engage the starter motor??

    no, as the only load on the car is then the starter motor. Only going by experience i've had with Saxos in the past, worked on one or two now, power steering pump is still number one suspect though
