rev limiter

    hi
i tried posting this on the track part but it wouldnt let me

i have just started racing a sax vtr on oval track,

i have got the car as light as possible inc removing all door and bonnet bones just leaving the skin, does any one know where i can get fibre/carbon skins to get it even lighter

my main problem however is i am not allowed to mod the engine what so ever appart from remove the rev limiter does any one know which remap flasher is suitable for a 1.6 8v most i have seen do the 1.4 8v and 1.6 16v

car currently peaking out at 7000rpm and need it around 9000rpm

will any other sax gearbox mate with my engine to give better acceleration in 2nd from 40mph-and up

    thanks

I think, but am not too sure, if you unlock your ECU, by unplugging it with the engine running(not sure where unplugged as its just what i've skim read on here) then this will unlock the ECU and remove the rev limiter? It also makes your immobiliser useless iirc.

As for the gearbox I think any other model saxo's will fit, although your probably best with a furio one to not be topping out too low, I think the VTR box is the same as the S apart from the final drive?

Both of that may be wrong but if you do a search you should find out more.

removing the ecu while the engine is running removes the engine code but doesnt remove the rev limiter,

Gotta get it mapped to change engine limiter, and if you run it at 9000 on a standard engine i reckon itll go pop pretty quickly.

Gearbox wise there are a lot of other choices and many people believe the VTR box to be the worst choice of box acceleration wise as it has the lowest final drive. It depends how fast you need the car to go. A S1 Rallye Box has the highest final drive of the MA boxes and therefore will be your best bet acceleration wise however due to this it will top out at around 105mph on a VTR and about 120mph on a VTS. So if you are getting up to high speed on track a lot of the time and require going faster than this it is worth considering other boxes such as the XSI box, S2 Rallye Box or the VTS box. The VTS box is very good and a lot of people upgrade to this on the VTR. The Rallye/XSI boxes are excellent for improvement on acceleration if you aren't that fussed on what speed you top out at, I have an S1 box on my VTS and imo its the best mod i've done. These are quite sought after boxes though and go for more money than VTS/VTR boxes.

Here is a useful gearbox thread with the different gearboxes listed

Have a look at streamline carbon for carrbon fibre goodies, they arent cheap though. You can get fibreglass ones too, kam racing or ebay are probably your best bet for those.

As above fit a s1 rallye or 1.4xsi box. A furio box is very nearly the same as a vtr box and a vts box will only make a slight improvement.

How have you got your standard vtr to rev to 7k? they should have a limiter at 6250. I should think it will go bang revving to 9k without fairly extensive engine work.

i think i need to clear this up a bit

I KNOW ABSULUTLY NOTHING ABOUT SAXO'S i just know they will beat all the other cars in this formula

the racing is a short oval about 1/4 mile long, 3 heats of 10 laps, so the cars only do a max of 5 miles before its serviced

most people can get and engine to last quite a while normally 10-12 races before its stripped and rebuilt

the cars are only driven in 2nd gear and only standard parts found on saxo's can be used, no cross matching from other citreons are allowed and no aftermarket parts can be used

when i said its reving out at 7k its only and estimate as there is not rev counter in the car so i dont know

the only engine mod allowed is to remove the rev limiter,

basically im after the best gear box for acceleration in 2nd gear

if i can get my comp to upload it i will post a vid of how fast and close the racing is you are driving around a hairpin cm away from another car befor accelorating and fighting for the racing line to the next hairpin, lets just say cars end up losing paint, but its fast and fun

    thanks

What year is it? Get the head and cam from an S2 rallye and the gearbox from an XSi. You can rev the early engines harder as the rockers are better.

So no 106 bits even though there tu engines too and have ma gearboxes too?
Also how fast does the car have to go in second gear?
  10. #10
    engines are the newer 100bhp

they have to go as quick at they possible can before your arse starts puckering for the brakes as the corner comes, mine revs out quite abit befor the corner

are 106 parts the same as saxo????

Other than the gearbox code the boxes are the same, Pretty sure externally the rallye head is the same.
If you could get away with it couple the above with a mk1 manifold and a mk2 mid pipe for a decat, fit a s1 rallye inlet manifold if you can (they look different)

There's loads of internal engine work you could do that no one would know about if your into cheating
  13. #13
im not into cheating alot do it but there spending 5k on an engine and its only rookie racing so there only cheating themselves and its stupid money for no prize money, but they get sponcership so that pays for it, good results = more sponcership

cheating = lifetime ban from orci racing

i just want to use parts that are the best for standard

im going to look into what peeps have said over pug parts because if there the same i dont see what the difference is
  14. #14
i have spoken to the powers that be and pug parts are ok as long as there standard to the car as it came out of the factory,

so any thoughts on best combination for gearbox (rallye are like rockin horse sh#t) so probly next best for 2nd gear accelloration

and best combi for engine parts,

i can also over bore by 1.5mm what improvement will 1.5mm give me

    thanks
