is this a common problem with saxos?

Just got my girlfriends saxo on the lift to inspect the rear axle as we were told it was on its way out when we bought it. Now when it was jacked up it seems the axle is fine but the inner arches are completely rotten where it meets the boot floor causing the mounting points to flex and the rear of the car to sink.

Is this a common problem and what causes it/can be done to prevent it. Obviously the course of action now is to weld it all back up.

sounds like its a bit of a shed. i would most deffinately not drive it at all. would take it straight to someone who can weld it all back to how it should be. for sure it shouldnt sink...

Sounds like massive job though, have you any pictures?

No pics at the mo it ain't being driven anywhere and I'll weld it up at work this week. Car is fine everywhere else no rust or anything untoward anywhere else on it. That's why I'm trying to find if its common for this to happen.

it sounds to me like what happened on a 106 i looked at, the car was lowered that much that the boot caved in eventually.

get it looked at and welded if possible. Either that or scrap it.

As said earlier being a mechanic the work isn't a problem and will get done next week. It doesn't seem to be a common problem then judging by replies so I guess I'll just weld it up and keep an eye on it in the future. May also be something you guys wanna look out for.

It is a common problem TBH, my last 2 saxos had it. Went to the scrappies yesterday for a few bits and half of them in there were rotton too. Could stick my hand through the rear arch into the boot on one vts!

Its a common problem I just hope you`ve caught the corrosion in time because it happened to a mate`s vts in the end there was nothing left to weld to.

Well I can get my hand through one side but there is good metal all around it so one big plate and rewelding the boot floor seem should do the trick.

Just make sure you use some anti rust paint on it afterwards, wouldn't want it to happen again!

No plenty of etch primer lying around due to owning the nova lol
