Guess the weight....

  1. #1
So me, alex and my brother have just been to weigh our cars at mallory...

Car 1: mark1 mango Saxo westcoast, 16v engine, stripped completely, 20kg cage, carbon roof & boot, 25litres of fuel (roughly)

Car 2: mark2 Banana 106gti, 16v engine, full interior (bucket recliner front seats), soundeadening removed & rear seat belts removed, 25litres of fuel (roughly)

Car 3: mark1 blue 106, 8v 1.4 iron block engine, rear completely stripped & carbon front seats, 20litres of fuel (roughly)

How much do you think they weigh?

Well yours was 800kg with nothing in including lightened bumpers. Mine has cage but then also has carbon fibre...

mine was 790kgs with a little fuel in..

    so about the same??
  13. #13
Mine had half a tank in it...
  14. #14
id say mine is a fair bit heavier now.. probably 30kgs heavier. and the cage will add around the same again.

are you going to tell me now or what lol?

    Lol, yeah,

    Car1(mine): 821kg (saving 140kgs ish)
    Car2(alexb): 884kg (saving 80kgs ish)
    Car3(Sams xsi): 812kg (saving 50kgs ish)

I'm really happy with that tbh considering my cage has added at least 20kg's so in theory I've saved over 160kgs!

I thought sams would be slightly less tbh, and alex's is a decent saving considering its not had that much lightening done so far...
  16. #16
thats a GREAT weight mate, got to be happy with that.. i know i would.
    its a seriously light car.

i thought sams would be a tad lighter but still fucking light lol.
    good stuff.
  17. #17
Yeah i agree mate, im really happy with that

Once i get my carbon bonnet and will be down to my target weight of 800kg's or there abouts
  18. #18
true, you could easily lose more weight without compramise though mate. well have a chat about it next mash up
  19. #19
I'm tempted to say fuck all for all three.

I thought sams would be sub 800kg but then he hasn't done that much weight saving with the xsi tbh, it still has all the soundeadening in at the moment lol!

Alright Dave alright, I'd love an s1 but as I said to steve the other day they didn't do them in mango lol
  23. #23
I need to sort my fibreglass bonnet (single sheet 4 aerocatches and a pin in the badge to stop it flapping) and rear 3 polycarbs out theres a few other bits too but im not 100% on doing them

There sat in the garage ready haha

was impressed at joshs and sams i didnt realise still had a fair bit under the carpet so its not bad tbh will be under 800 with very little effort

    Pretty good to see

Love that mines happily over 200hp/ton with full interior as that was my initial aim when i started the motor build tbh
  24. #24
211bhp per ton so way over 200per ton with full interior is just nuts alex tbh!
  25. #25
That's pretty good weight saving guys

Mine came in at 820 last year (on a public Weighbridge so give or take!) - was aiming for 500bhp/ton which I finally got this year as I think the cars lost a little weight this year (lighter rad, intercooler, some interior parts, etc). I'd really like to get it weighed properly somewhere like that though so you know exactly

    Did it cost much/anything?

800kg = what BHP per tonne for you JP?

    EDIT - I didn't read the thread...Never mind!
  29. #29
    Holy shit, that light!

Although, that means my 106 must have been pretty bloody light then. I think the mango's probably stripped a bit more, but has a heavier cage than I was running. Fuck, that' upsetting...

Haha, when I next up there I'll let you know, prob be next year sometime though!

Jay - Currently it's 200 per ton using 165bhp as a power figure, with 800kg it would be around 210per ton roughly.

Titch - what spec was your 106?
  31. #31
Tithes was a 1.1 with a 16v stripped with a half cage and buckets
  32. #32
Thats a pretty good weight with interior etc alex, id be chuffed with that!

Very light also Josh. I agree though, im surprised Sams aint a little bit lighter. I guessed 820kgs for his as thats what my old 1.4 weighed at with them two Corbeau Recliners I got off you guys years ago. + I didnt go to town with insulation behind the dash etc
  33. #33
I am chuffed but i know theres a lot more come off potential sub 875 with my new bits

Id love sub 900 full interior and cage would be nice haha

if that was when it was turbo'd then theres no way im believing that! you have BE box, cage, all turbo gear etc and only 30kgs heavier than my car was with throttle bodies...colin says his car is 900kgs.. how is your 80kgs lighter? i wanna know so i can do it, should get mine down to below 700kgs

josh, im back a week on wednesday mate. when ive got my clutch sorted and the car mapped ill take a ride up to yours
  35. #35
To get a car below 700kg you have to go pretty drastic. I'm cutting and chopping lots on my 205 to get that low.

Yeah, similar to what Alex said, but it wasn't a 1.1 to start with. Pretty much a base spec shell with sports suspension/the brace bars that go from the bulkhead to the wishbone kidney mountings etc. Handbook said ~895kg to start with.

cause ive now got a big heavy turbo/intercooler/exhaust to lug around lol.. im sure an extra 150hp will make up for it though
  40. #40
This makes me want to start getting rid of more weight from the saxo, Id like to know what it weights atm.
  41. #41
why you wieghing them with a spare wheel in?
  42. #42
Probably because that's generally how they're driven? Gives a good idea of the weight of the car as it's used, opposed to the weight if it had various parts removed.
  43. #43
John - I removed my spare wheel as when on track days I normally remove it anyway.
