Creaky gear linkages

  1. #1
I have narrowed it down to this part of the linkages that creaks.

I covered them that part grease and it seemed to fix it, but after 10 mins of driving it came back again.

Can anyone tell me how I can fix it?

    Cheers

u sure its that bit thats creaking? sometimes the bit under the gaitor on the gearstick does it, will be more likely to stop it if u pop the linkages off and pack the hole with grease then put it back together though

    Cheers for reply
Yea I greased that bit under the gaiter first then other bits and moved it every time I greased a part, it stopped when I did the one I pointed out. How do you take it apart?

It will be the ones under the stick that creek. There made not to be greased as there a nylon bush if the creek there fucked so need new ones and there about 9 quid for the 2 from citroen.

you get them out by removing the heat shield and removing the bolt then the bush's just prize out.

other than that you can try removing the linkages and packing the cups with grease and re fitting.

I know its defiantly not the one under the sick cos removed it from inside the car and I moved the whole gear stick mount thing back and forward it didn't creak, but when I moved the linkage connected to it, it did.

Should there be a heat shield on a 1.1?

ahh i see ur on about the nylon ball piece probably would need replacing to stop that, might be worth popping the linkages off and greasing them though just to make sure its not them.. the ones connected to the ball part, they just leaver off with a spanner like 13/14 mil and yeah there should be heat shields but they often get left off as the retaining bolts often snap when people remove them so they don't bother re-fitting

It's not anything other than what i said, why don't you understand? lol

I'll pop all the joints apart tomorrow and give them a good greasing

I know what ur saying im just suggesting that it may sound like its the ball creaking but in fact be the linkages as they are all so close togeather on that part.. good luck with it

just wondering what type of grease are u using? i used copperslip grease on mine worked fine, and its heat proof, thought this might help

yeah I'm using copper grease, it said it works up to 1100 C so thought meh this will do

I took the ball of and it turns out its the bellcrank thats creaking

so think im going to get a new one, hopefully that should fix it

copper grease is bad for plastic nylon and rubber

    as is oil.

Silicone grease is the one there
