Strange noise on startup.

When I start my engine (almost every time) I hear a strange crunch or buzz noise almost like I'm turning the ignition with the engine running. Now I'm not holding the ignition for too long it almost seems like the starter motor is just doing too much? Any ideas? Didn't use to do this before I replaced the coil pack (single unit style that runs above the plugs).

Any ideas?? A bit of a weird one... :/

Starter motor not fully engaging with flywheel springs to mind. Might get away with removing and cleaning greasing the mechanism on the motor

Worn ring gear on the starter motor is a possiblity.

I would say both Steves have come up with the most valid surgestions, might be worth starting it and opening the bonnet to see where the sound is coming from. To me it sounds like you may just need to grease up some parts with wd40 to ensure they are moving freely. I recently had a similar sound coming from my fan belt and solved it by using this method
