Heat wrapping a Manifold

  1. #1
Just a few questions about heat wrapping:

Do i even need to heat wrap my 4-2-1, my car is for road use only it wont be going on the track so not sure if i need it,some people say its bad for the manifold others highly recommend it.

Which width of heat wrap is best to use 1 inch or 2.

Does the manifold need to be sprayed with a high heat coating before being wrapped?

    Any help ,thanks

To start with its not cheap so your £50 quid would be better of spent else where!. Not really needed on a road or track car at all unless you have parts very close to the manifold which could suffer from heat soak of melt. Its also known (from what i have read) to retain heat in the manifold which can cause restrictions in gas flow.

If you want to do it use 2" wrap

And the spray goes on afterwards.
    Stops fluid ingress.

If you wrap or coat the manifold, youll keep bay temps down which is obviously good.

The idea behind wrapping is keeping the heat in the gas - this means conservation of energy and thus conservation of gas momentum; by keeping the gas moving you get a better cylinder scavenge and hence better engine running

I certainly would, keep intake temp's down which will keep more oxygen in the air resulting in a bigger bang in you'r cylinders
