Throttle pedal moving on its own!

  1. #1
Hi guys really hoping someone can help here.

Basically the problem is when doing say 70 on the motorway and you lift off the throttle, the pedal will stop about halfway up and the car will start engine braking really hard untill the revs have dropped to about 2 or 3k. Pressing down on the pedal again wont stop the engine braking untill the pedal is pressed enough for the car to start accelerating again.

While the pedal is halfway up, pressing in the clutch causes the throttle pedal to immeaditely come back up to where its supposed to be.

does anyone have any ideas, this is driving me nuts!!!!

Also have occasional problem with idling too high (1500) and too low (500)

chances are the auto choke are playing up, on the 106s ive seen its directly fixed to the throttle linkage. havnt looked at one for a few years but wont be too hard too sort.

Need to look at the pedal bar that the brake and clutch pedal pivot on - somethings not quite right. The throttle pedal mounts sepertely with 2 10mm nuts, remove pedal and clean mounting point, re grease and refit pedal to take that out of the equation.

Also your brake linkage can be adjusted from uder the bonnet. It sits under a black plastic cover at the back of the engine on the bulkhead drivers side. Remove cover, check mechanism is freee and not over adjusted. You need a very small amount of playbetween brake pedal and the cross linkage that transmitts movement to the servo/master cylinder on the passeneger side of the engine bay.

Ps tillygti6 refers to an auto choke but I am not aware of anyting like that on a fuel injected car. Maybe you can PM him for an explanation - he might have some advice?
