I had a recon axle fitted, i then put it in for mot and it came back with advisorys on both offside and nearside rear radius arm has slight play. Should the arm move alittle or have i been ripped off?

#4R. mountjoy sorry

#5Hmm they seem alright, theres a few companies out there that do bodge jobs which is why I asked.
Take it to another independant garage and ask them if they think you have play in the rear beam. Dont tell them about MOT etc, and see what they say. They obviously wont charge for this.
I find it hard both have play which is fail worthy on both sides after a refurb. -
#6Unless it's been refurbed and they've used crap pins.
-
#7they showed me and it does have slight play its not alot but surly it will cause problems in the future if it has movement after 20miles driving. when i rung r.mount joy they said it was within tolrence. do you know what the tolrence is? it wasn't failed but given advisorys. thanks for help

#8In my opinion. Bearing in mind i've worked on hundreds of beams, rebuilt 20 or so. I would say that 2mm movement at the furthest point would be acceptable for a new beam.
For a normal beam thats not been rebuilt then maybe 3 or 4mm
Any MOT tester should understand that such parts will need tolerances and i beleive, they would use their own judgement as to 'how much play' it's got and wether to fail it.
Anything they would deem as excessive is a fail, as you know. A telltale sign that a beam isnt up to standard would be the wheels leaning, height not the same each side or indifferences in the camber of the wheels. -
#9if its at the point where the wheels are catchin a part of the body then it will fail mate, the tester is probs just covering his back, is there any warranty on the axle?
-
#10when you say "furthest point" where do you mean? Its no where near rubbing on the arches but you can see that the camber is leaning in very slightly.
-
#11yeah it has a years waranty but when i contacted r mountjoy the old man was abit ignorant and said it within the tolerances and I have to get a second opinion from the ministy of transport befor he would do anything.

#12as said above its at the moters discresion weather he thinks its within the tollerance or not i would get a second opinion from another garage
