this sucks! can you help?

hey. i've just got home after a night out driving the saxo.

so... when i full lock to the left there is a rubbing noise.
i checked and i can easily fit 2finger widths down both sides of my RIGHT wheel/tyre. but on the left i cant fit the 2finger widths on the backside of the tyre. now i think the inner arch needs adjusting or pushing back i'm but not sure.

open for any suggestions that i can have a look at in the morning.

    next.. my freaking handbrake
it works fine. catches the 'rachet' nicely when i want it engaged.
BUT. when it comes to releasing it and leaving it in the down position. it doesnt lock on the rachet and moves very easily/loosly and my handbrake light apears. a little unerving.

how can i fix this problem? is it as simple as tighten a nut/bolt or is it a replace jobby?

thanks for your time, look forward to any responses.
    cheers, kilo.

handbrake isnt meant to "click in" when its off, my sax light comes on occasionally, clean the swithc underneath it should be fine, its just a light

and the rubbing could be many things, not a very clear descrition, start with what alloys and size and tyre size, follow up with pics of both front alloys..straight on so we can see front and rear of wheel/arch, with wheels perfectly straight

could be a bent wishbone, i slammed my saxo into a curb before bent wishbone, could fit about 3/4fingers down one side and barely 1 down the other. replaced wishbone and all was fine

okay so, these are some (a lot) of photos of both front wheels. i havent have a good look through them, so i'm hoping they aren't too hard to distinguish between front left/ right.

i think it would be worth adding that a month or so ago i had an accident involving the left hand side front wheel. i had to replace the:
wishbone, driveshaf, hub+bearing and the front wheel. as these were badly damaged. everything is brand new and the tracking has been sorted. it only started making the rubbing noise as of yesterday (to my knowledge).

anyway i think my handbrake just needs adjusting to be honest.

and the front left wheel, i'm still not 100% on.. i'm no mechanic and i'm not going to pretend i am, so if anyone can spot anything in my photos.. even the most obvious.. it will be much appreciated!

    cheers guys

Top row pic 3 & 4 the tracking is out for the tyre to be worn like that, other thing would`ve been the wishbone causing that but you`ve said you`ve replaced that.

    Steve.
i meant i replaced it after the accident.
these pictures were taken today and it's been over a month since the accident. is it possible that the wishbone needs replacing again?

also, how can you tell that the tracking is out?
    thanks for your input dude.

If you look at pic 3 & 4 you`ll see a band on the tyre with no tread what so ever(completely smooth)I wouldn`t have thought that the wishbone needs replacing again. How does the car drive?Does it pull to 1 side when you brake? If you take your hands off the steering does the car wander?(ie not go in a straight line)other possibilties could be a bent chassis so its put everything out.Plus driving with tyre/s like watch the old bill don`t pull you.

it drives fine. doesn't pull when braking nor does it wander.. maybe a touch to the left (barely) but i've been told thats normal. y'know if you fell asleep at the wheel the car would edge towards the left being off the road instead of the right.. into the traffic.

but yeah it drives lovely. i'm thinking it might actually be the left inner arch needing to be replaced. it doesn't have all the clips in it at the moment, nor does it sit as far back as i think it could. i thought of this yesturday so maybe thats the rubbing?

the wishbone and driveshaft etc.. look fine on the pictures to me. do they to you?

    cheers Steve!

Did they mention anything when they did your tracking?

I'd maybe look to get a 4wheel laser geo check.
  11. #11
    what's one of those?

nah the people who done my tracking are family friends so if there was something wrong they would have mentioned it (i helped do it) i also got a new front left tyre that day (from the same garage)

Well a 4 wheel geometry check will tell you how all 4 wheels are in relation to each other using lasers, which should help to sort/confirm your worries.

Instead of a standard toe in and out check of the front wheels and check that the steering wheel is straight.

isnt that the sidewall of the tyre thats smooth? I'd say that the chasis must of been bent from the side it was crashed for it to look like that but hard to say without really looking.

If your looking side on as pic 1 & 2 then yes but in pic 3 & 4 that`s the inner edge of the tyre which should have some tread on mate.
