noticed today on the way home from quite a long motorway journey my car is making a knocking noise seems to get worse with higher speed, car has just ticked over 90k its a mk2 vtr, with the mileage getting a little high im guessing somethings worn out. I recently fitted a new lower engine mount and new wheel bearings as they were shot if that helps any, that was a couple of days ago, thanks

#3this might sound stupid but how do i check it, just shake the engine? how much movement should it have if its ok? thanks

#4Take out the ecu and see if you can remove half of the mount. Some may be different but on most vtr's the engine hangs off the one bolt which has a habit of snapping.1 user thanked this post:

#7Ive got a knocking noise on my 1.4 Furio - Only kicks in at around 55mph and gets faster with acceleration. If you go over 60 the noise stops and if you go under 55 there again is no noise. What could this be? My partner is a mechanic and we have looked all over the car and no sign of what could be causing the noise. Help!

#8Another way to test engine mounts, lift the bonnet and get someone to stand looking at the engine, the 2nd person to sit in the car and put it in gear, leave the handbrake on and bring the clutch up...
If the engine moves a little bit on the engine mounts then its okay, if the engine rattles and starts to move quite far back in the engine bay then its the mounts that have gone! Hard to explain in writing but if you try it your know what i mean and your be able to tell if the mounts have gone or not...
This can also be used to check if clutch is slipping or on its way out, if it is the car will stall easily when the clutch is put under load
