Front Screenwash Fault?

  1. #1
Hi, I am new to these forums, fairly new to driving and just bought a 2000 reg 1.1 Saxo (forte I think) for my first car!

Now I am fairly oblivious when it comes to mechanics or the workings of a car and I am slightly confused about my cars screenwash situation.

When I bought the car the previous owner told me it had been sat for a few months un-used and I noticed that the screenwashers wouldn't work (front or back) but the wipers was going just fine when I tried. I topped up the screenwash (note: the bottle looked bone dry to me) and they still wouldn't work. A friend suggested using a pin to try unblock the jets which i did and success! The rear wash now works fine. Now for the odd bit, I noticed when using the rear wash I can hear the motor whirring quite clearly doing its job but when i try the front ones there is no sound, and ofc no clean windscreen!

This may be a dumb question but is there 2 seperate pumps/motors?, one for rear and one for the front? Or perhaps a seperate function within the one pump for each? I just find it very odd that one would work without the other.

Any tips or advice anybody can give to try help me resolve this issue without having to take her to a garage would be great! (I found a great guide on this site about how to change the pump but I assumed this wasn't the issue as the rear jet works?)

Sorry if this is an already raised/known issue but I tried multiple searches and didn't find an answer (at least one I understand ) Please help!!

one pump. as above check fuses, correct me if im wrong but there is two different switches on the stalk, to operate front and back. pull towards- front washers, twist- rear washers. this could be the source of your problem. check fuses though easy and quick.
