Exhaust Knock...Maybe Nothing, Maybe Lost Bracket??

  1. #1
Hi dudes. Got a Saxo VTR in zest yellow. All complete like, nothing hanging off BUT...there is a slight knock from the exhaust now and again. I've checked the connection to the engine, all fine, and the blow from it, all good. I've then checked how secure the exhaust is to the vehicle at the back box. Can't move it much up or down so all good, very secure there. But, only occasionally, when you go around a mini roundabout or something, the exahust seems to shudder and knock against the bottom of the car. It does shudder in the middle when the engine idles but only slightly. When you're driving normally, or even quickly, its fine...don't notice it. But, just occasionally, when you go around a mini roundabout or do a slow speed move, it knocks against the body just for a few seconds then stops ?? Any ideas?? ]

Maybe its a lost bracket in the middle? Or maybe I'm just noticing something that isn't really important?? At first I wondered if the shudder was being caused by the car being at too low revs in higher gears at slow speed (naturally) and therefore the shudder from the engine caused the movement?? I don't know really! Just wondering in case its something serious, but hopefully not so

    Cheers guys, be safe

Does it sound like two glass bottles knocking together?

Erm, don't know really, its more of a thud as you can tell that the leading box is hitting the bottom of the car. Yet it doesn't hang down so there shouldn't be much freedom of movement? I wonder if its just one of those things, cuz its not consistent ??

could be hitting a heat shield , or my pug had the wrong rubbers on and use to let it bang on the spare wheel ,, jack it up and look if there any thing it could be clashing with

Your exhaust could be to close to the floor of the car,so that when it heats up & expands it vibrates/knocks on the floor. As said the exhaust rubbers might be wrong you could change them for stiffer motorsport 1`s.The exhaust heat shield doesn`t do much so won`t hurt to take it off.Is your spare wheel cage nice & tight?because they can vibrate.

Cheers for the help with this one guys...

On closer inspection I found a broken joint...was sealed but this is knackard. So when you hit a bump it jumps up and down on the bad joint, hitting the heat shield. Resealing would stop it so getting onto that this week. Cheers dudes. Be safe
