16v GTi Conversion Help, I have searched alot!!!!

Ok before you all jump down my throat i have looked on the stickies have searched this forum the rallye forum and 106owners on doing this guide.

What i am thinking i need for conversion...

    Engine
    Loom
    Unlcoked Ecu
    Radiator and Fan
    Top Hose
    (cut bottom hose to fit?)
    Throttle Cable
    Sorting out fuel return

As i am going from vtr to gti/vts am i right in thinking that the top engine mount under ecu is going to be ok?

Basically i have a mk1 saxo vtr single plug. I am currently in the process of getting a 106 gti single plug engine, loom and unlocked ecu.

Am i right in thinking that the 106 gti engine, loom, ecu (single Plug) will fit in my saxo (single plug). Only i read on some post that the 106 gti and vts looms are differant (single plug) i thought they were exactly the same and the only differance was between the single plug and 3 plug. Basically i dont want to buy the 106 gti engine, loom and ecu if i have to cut loads of wires around to fit it in when i could get a vts engine, loom and ecu to just plug straight in. As i said i thought the single plug 106 gti and vts engine, loom and ecu were identical.

Also i herd that sensors will need to be swapped over never heard this before. I got told becuase i have a single plug vtr, all i would need is a single plug vts/gti engine, loom and ecu as well as (radiator, fan, top hose etc) but it seems like it may not be as simple as a bolt in plug in job.

Sorry if i have confused you, just trying to work this out as people are saying differant things on differant posts and sites.

106 gti loom won't plug straight into your interior loom

If you get the right engine and loom it is a bolt and plug in job
  4. #4
so the 106 gti is differant from the saxo vts?
  5. #5
The looms are. Where they plug into the interior loom.
  6. #6
Ok cheers for that, might be able to sort that out if not ill be buying a vts loom.

the 106 engine is also missing the oil heat exchanger on the top rad hose that the vts has

looms are a mine feild but you will be needing a saxo loom for single plug the sensors ect should be ok but be aware and dont buy a changeover loom as then youll be fucked

try find a loom for a vts the same year as your car is the best rule to follow

I have a 106gti engine with FULL 106gti Loom, needed a few changed inside.. but all good =)

What do you mean needed a few changed inside? Do you mean were it joins to the interior loom?
  10. #10
a few changes.. if you get the interior loom of a 106 gti, the fuel pump cables are different,
all the trunk instalation is diferent.. things like what..

when i say its diferent, is same cables different positions

It's easier to get the right engine loom than to change the interior loom id say!!

Id agree here i changed an interior loom before and literally 90% of the interior needs to come out
if your cars stripped its not as bad but dash carpet seats rear doorcards c pillar cover fuel pump switch is a slag to get out tbh its 100% easier to get the correct engine loom for your car

As for 106-saxo it depends massively on the age of the car some of the 106s have extras on the interior loom and on the saxo theres no fixings to hold them too so end up needing to tape or zip tie things if your not confident cutting them off

Basically a saxo engine loom is a lot easier

So can you guys confirm that, the 106 gti loom -01 and saxo vts -01 are not the same?
