What is this? (Picture)

Well i had a knock start underneath my feet, basically i can feel knock and i can hear it abit and was going down a road and something flipped out of the car hit underneath the car and flew up in the air and this is what it was

The knocking is still the same but just want a piece of mind, What the hell is this bit of metal is it off my car? and what is causing the knock?
  2. #2
Looks slightly like the exhaust downpipe-gearbox mounting bracket but not 100% on that
  3. #3
It still drives fine thats the weird thing its only a thin piece of metal you think i can still drive car?
  4. #4
+1 It does look like a bracket, check the engine bay and exhaust, if this is an exhaust bracket it could cause it to knock. Check as many parts as you can, if you want real peace of mind get it checked by a garage.

could be exhaust tbh as it is knocking near my feet where abouts will this be located underneath the car? or in the engine bay?

hmm, doesnt look like a saxo related piece of metal too me. id say it was already in the road, and your wishbones need attention.

could be anything though, worth checking the powersteering pump brackets and bits too, make sure nothings come adrift.

Ye im going to check things cant see it been anything big with it been a small bit of metal
  8. #8
I'm guessing that was already in the road and when you drove over it you flicked it up and it hit your car.

    Edit: beaten to it!

It looks like somethings been flipped up from the road & hit your car, don`t forget your wisbone that side is bolted up to the floor roughly where your feet are mate.

So is my wish bone that might need replacing thats whats causing the knock?
  12. #12
it could be the wishbone bushes, the balljoint itself, or the wheel bearing, or the droplink, basically any of the front suspension components on there way home, you can buy the wishbone bushes on there own but require some mechanical skill to fit.......

tbh you might as well fit a complete new wishbone.

I shall have a look under the crapet i didnt even know there was any bolts under there haha
  17. #17
2 bolts on each side of the footwells, what hold the wishbone's on.
  18. #18
ill give that a check tonight , im still ok to drive the car tho?
  19. #19
put the car into shopping mode and youl be fine im sure, best not leave it too long as these things dont tend to fix themselves
  20. #20
Well they are nylon bolts, so not likely to undo all the way. Just as the rubber gets older and softer, the bolts become slightly loose.
  21. #21
Ill check them tonight and if there tight am i looking at getting a new wishbone?
  22. #22
looks like the bracket that tightens up the alternator belt to me..

obv part of it has snapped off lol
  23. #23
Ill check that aswell ill check everythin haha
  24. #24
Well the wishbone bolts are tight!, so do i need a new wishbone?
  25. #25

How are your drop links looking? checked the exhaust for hitting the underneath of the car?
  27. #27
i take it the drop links are the things that come down with a bend at the bottom? or arnt they ment to look like that? haa
  28. #28
the one that attaches to the strut from the anti roll bar, how are the rubbers on this? and might aswell check the trackrod ends, the other rubber bit what connects to the strut.
  29. #29
sounds to me like your rear gearbox mount has gon
  30. #30
Well the knock doesnt get any worse when i go over bumps its like a constant knock
