Painting Wheels DIY styleee....

  1. #1
I've spent the whole morning reading previous posts from both here and SSC on the art of DIY wheel spraying, there seems to be mixed opinions on how successfull it is and how durable it is.

I was all set to get sanding the afternoon but now I'm in two minds.

How long will the paint last if there well laquared and do they look any good in the flesh?

    Cheers

    Steve

well its best putting as much paint and laquer on as you can this will help durabilty but if you kurb them or stone hits them they will chip

make sure they are definatley dry before putting on car to
  3. #3
Have you done yours? If so do they look good close up?
  4. #4
yeah i did mine they look ok i did mine with a spay gun and was my first go with 1 they just need more laquer

i repaired leckies on here also helped saxoash do his with a spraycan
  5. #5
If you use propper wheel paint (available from halfords etc) then yeah they should last a while. I did these and they are still in goog nick after nearly a year.

    Cheers for the help lads.

Is the proper wheel paint made by "Simonize"? As I was looking at the other day or is it just halfords own make?
  7. #7
i just used nomal paint and laquer on leckies and i think saxoash just got normal paint and there both ok
  8. #8
I've just been to halfords and the specific wheel paint offer a limited amount of colours so it'll have to be normal paint.

I'm going to get them all prepped for priming then make a decision on the colour.
  9. #9
preping is the most important job so take your time

    progress pics will be good

if the tyres are still on let them down and push down its easier to mask them off
  10. #10
I've had the tyres removed to make life easier, I'm going to clean the car in a minture so I'll give the wheels a really good clean get all the crap of em.

Then I'll start adding the filler tomorrow and so on...

I'll get a mini step by step guide on the go it should prove usefull to others then.
  11. #11
yeah i was going todo it when i did mine but i forgot
  12. #12
yeah step by step guide would be good am thinking of doing mine in the future an am clueless.

I'll just see how it goes.

ok white wheels it is and i have even got my girlfriend to agree with me now!!!! now just need to find someone who can do it any ideas???
  28. #28
what filler would you use on the wheels? im guessing theres some special sort
  29. #29
didnt know u would have to use filler carnt u spray stright on to the wheels if u scratched them a bit for a good key
  30. #30
My dads told me to use some special stuff, basically its like a stick of something, you snap abit off, need it & use it, once it sets its just like metal.

I have white vtr alloys on my possi blue base model, but all the paint is comming off, i cant complain, they were cheaper then buying two new tyres which i needed at the time.

  33. #33
Where did you get the metal flake from? I'm presuming its not out of a rattle can.
  34. #34
i did my vts wheels 2 weeks ago, they where really easy to do and they look really. I will get some pics up in a bit.

Attachment 423looks like u have dun a good job fancy doing mine lol because i dont i want mine white but dont know how i would spray inbetween the spokes. does anyone think these wheels will look good white???
  38. #38
They look really good, did you use just black paint or was it matt, satin etc?

I'd go for black wheels over white on a posi blue saxo especially with the look of your car it may look abit busy.
