Tapping noise on start up

#2Clutch release bearing. Will need replaced if you want rid of the noise.

#3To be honest mine does the same, im a mechanic and do all my own work on my car, my saxo has had a new gearbox, also fitted a Valeo Clutch kit with release bearing about 6 months ago and mine makes a tapping/ratling noise on idle until i dip the clutch, nothing major, clutch operation is perfect, i think the release bearings are just a poor fit on the fork and input shaft, if the bearing its self is knackered the noise would become more heavy and severe when the clutch is pressed ( as this is when the bearing is pressed against the clutch cover springs and is under load)

#4Has no one thought of the obvious?
Tappets might need adjusting that's all. -
#5Duplicate ..

#6He stated the noise goes away when the clutch is pressed, if that is true then it aint his tappets

#7Right OP ..
When you're driving can you hear the tapping?
And whilst you're driving with the tapping you put your clutch down so you're coasting right? Then it goes away?
Right try this..
Start your car up but keep stationary so you can hear the tapping then gradually put on a few revs and see if the tapping gets any louder.
Then get back to me.1 user thanked this post: -
