   timing belt gone the engine has died and i got very little funds atm what is the best coarse of action

   save some pennies is best advice i can give! get the head off, see how many valves have been bent, buy valves, get a light skim on the head,new gasket and build it back up. No super cheap quick fix i'm afraid.

   im trying to decide wheather to break it for spares or bite the bullet and drop an s engine in there

   If you are able to do the work yourself, it won't be very expensive. £150 max, I'd say

   vtr engines can be picked up really cheap. fit it in less than a day if your handy.
