Fiberglas Quick one.

right so ive always thought Fiberglas was going to be an arse to work with and its put me off for ages from doin small things. but yesterday had a go at some eyebrows and really impressed with how they have turned out. just need spraying and fitting now .
so now im sitting here thinking about what i can do next, door pods, custom ipod holder etc etc but then i was looking on here and seen a couple of dashboards done and it really got me going on the idea again. (thought of doing this a little while ago!!) but now ive used the fiberglas im happy with how it works i wanna do it.
but the question i have is..... cause its such a large surface area would you 1) have to masking tape it all up so the glass sticks to it.
    2) could you just use the putty fiberglass instead of the sheets of it.

    cheers and comments welcome

    thanks again guys

I wouldnt use your dash!! Go get one from a scrappy and use that, sand the texture down on it so its smooth using p120 or something similar - then depending on what you want to do with it will determine what type of fiberglass you use??

i know that looking for a dash at the minute haha and i wouldnt mind the whole dash doing cause i want to spray it all white then the center console parts gloss black

The putty stuff won't be as strong as the proper fibreglass sheets with resin

sand the dash down by hand as flat as you can, working down to finer grades, then mix some resin and hardner up and paste it onto the dash then sand that. or use filler, resin and hardner to paste onto it. then sand that.

mate pm wassy cus half the ideas on this thread make me piss.

If you want it smooth then rub it down and primer filler. If your making pods for gauges and stuff you can get something called glass mask. Its basically a sticky back plastic with a layer of tin foil on it.

Dont use the fast glass it's shit use a trade resin and the propper methyl ethyl keytone peroxide hardner and sheets of glass fibre's not tissue and it will last a life time and be strong like bull.

Once you have formed the pods you should then use the psate or (kitty hair) to smooth over before filler.

Other than that just make good forms out of mdf first and job should turn out ok.
