temp dial and fan not working

  1. #1
i have recently put a mk1 vtr engine in my mk2 furio witha crossover loom from a w reg vtr
the engine starts fine no idle problems or anything
i have a rattle from gearbox when clutch is released (think its the bearing )

but anyway i got a vts rad and a vtr fan from mk2 saxos
the wiring for the fan is from my furio engine as i thort it would be the same but i have a plug left thats not going anwere and cant find a plug for it
and there is a plug on the radiator that doesnt have a plug for it either

is this because i have a mk1 engine and need different fan wiring or another problem but my guess is that is the plugs that are not connected that is the problem but dont know what to do next

    sorry for long read
thanks if you can help me sort this

now with pics of plugs unused at moment
my guess is that they plug togeather but because of different looms they are different plugs
am i right in thinking this or not. all help welcomed

is no one seriously willing help me

the brown plug comes from the fan wiring
and the ble one is on the radiator
i cant find anything to plug into these and need help from someone who knows about it

if thats not too much to ask on a saxo forum

No idea on the plug that looks like the coilpack plug.. Maybe it plugs into the car loom somewhere... Why cant you use the vtr fan?

And thats a mk1 radiator, it doesnt matter, its just the sensor isnt used on the mk 2 ist done off a different temp sensor. So thereis no plug thstll fit into the rad.
Do you have both coolant temp sensors plugged in? Is that the only plug coming from fan loom, should be a plug, an earth and a power feed from fusebox... (clips in underneath)

on the fan loom it plugs into fuse box a blue wire (underneath) and goes to relay and then to fan and im left with this plug

i got told the rad was mk2 but clearly not and do you know were the temp sensors are on the engine then so i can check that plug (it is a mk1 engine running a crossover loom) if that makes a difference at all

does anyone what fan and wiring the 2000 w reg saxo uses as i think thats my problem
  12. #12
The blue 3 pin is a thermostat switch, for controlling the fan. Since youve swapped rads its not clear if you actually need this or not.

Post up what ecu you had originally, and what you've swapped to.

i have a x reg 2000 furio (3 plug) and put a 1999 vtr(single plug) engine in on crossover loom from a 2000 w.reg vtr kept the standard fan loom as it was mk2 fan set up and still got the mk2 fan on but left with the plug left pictured and i had a lebal saying but cant remember were it went now and cant find any were for it
so wat do i need to do to get it working again
  14. #14
the 3 plug and the single plug crossover have the same connector but different pinout so that could be why some stuff isnt working.

Since you havent put up the ecu code im guessing here but on the 3 plug loom your fan was probably controlled by the engine ecu. On the vtr ecu (mp7.2?) theres no option to do this.

You want to wire pins 1+3 as a switch for a relay, then use it to power the fan directly.
  15. #15
so i wired the ecu to fan would make it come on when its needed or i can get pics of ecu for codes if it helps tomoz as its dark now
  16. #16
the mp7.2 does not support fan control, so no you cant wire it to that!
  17. #17
im confused to wat u mean to do sorry
  18. #18
does anyone know how i can get it sorted i am getting desperate to run it longer to see if i have anymore problems
  19. #19
If you wanna bring it to warrington ill wire it in, should be fine down the m62 you wont need the fans!
  20. #20
its not road worthy mate it needs new ball joints and drop links
thats what i mean if i could get someone to tell me what exactly i need to do i will be able to do it myself just dont know were to start from scratch with it if you know what i mean
i know the temp semsor on rad isnt needed by what i ave read and you told me
but why is temp dial not working still (maybe sensor but were is it)
  21. #21
its the blue one in the thermostat housing on the engine, make sure it has 2 pins. If its only got one its out of a base spec and has no feed for a gauge.. just a warning light.

If your ecu is a bosch mp7.2 the blue thermostat switch IS required.

were wil i find this mp7.2
the engine was claimed to a 2000 but on the loom it said 1999 on a sticker so im guessing its a 1999 engine which does require the blue sensor if im correct
and if im correct in this i need to wire the rad to ecu like you previously said
but i dont understand were the fan wires go to so it know when to come on

    sorry if its getting complicated
  24. #24
youve still got it wrong, on the 3 plug the fan was controlled by the ecu. On the single plug it was controlled by the blue switch on the radiator, and was not wired to the ecu in any way atall.
  25. #25
i am getting more confused as the days go by haha

its a 1999 engine so i imagine its controlled by the blue switch as you say
so do i wire the plug left from fan wiring to the blue plug on rad would that work

or am i better off getting a mk1 fan and wiring would i be able to sort it that way

how did the w reg 2000 run its fan as that is what loom i have on the engine at the moment. it all runs fine but the temp dial and fan

how long does it roughly take for fan to kick in
  26. #26
love the way only one person in like 125 actually willing to help me
someone else must know what is needed

its a x reg furio with a 1999 vtr engine withe w reg engine loom
so it is basically a w reg saxo vtr
so what fan does the w reg vtr run
was it the mk2 fan or the mk1 fan

i need some help on this people please
  27. #27
200 veiws nearly and only one person actualy trying to help me. nobody got a w reg saxo or know about the fans. Please i need to know the above
