Would a gearbox mount make a slight clunk when its on its way out,it happens when i change gear.. Are these hard to change??
  2. #2
they are very easy to change mate
  3. #3
How easy mate.. How will i know which one is gone?
  4. #4
2 18mm bolts hold it onto the gearbox iirc and one bolt tru the mount

best to get ur local garage to check if it is this thats knocking before you change it

Yeh i supoze mate.. It mainly happens from 1st to 2nd if i lift the clutch abit fast, not like a bad driver or anything ha..

Mine doesthis too mate and i've been told my gearbox mount is fucked, but it might be a clutch problem? as my release bearing's on it's way out and it does this.

Release bearing will not make this noise (funny how the release bearing gets the blame for most saxo related issues lol) but a worn mount(s) would. I have chanegd my bottom one for poly bush bnut noise is still there so I will have a gander at the gearbox top mount next. Never ending isn't it!

Yeh mate stop.. Wudnt think it would be a clutch problem tho as only had a new clutch in 3mnths sgo mate.. Whats the handiest way ov knowing which one is gone??

rock the engine, you'll hear it if its the mount (i certainly do!)
  10. #10
Ha ok mate.. But will the gearbox monut move from moveing the engine?
  11. #11
Yes, gbox is bolted to the engine. We have a mount under the gbox at the back, one under the battery that connects to the top of the gbox and one under the ecu plate (usually orange coloured)

change it asap mate. my friend ignored his and his engine is now half on the floor lol and done the driveshaft. the mount bolt sheered off in the gearbox

a slight clunk...hmm...well theres 3 mounts is there? my offside enigine mount went (completly with bolt missing) and it vibrated the hell out of the car at low range revs...so a gearbox mount id imagine would give a clunk or 2 yes...a big to find though.
