Obd software and cable where to buy?

    Hey

About 2 months ago my post cat sensor shot out of the exhaust and left a nice hole. Done a temporary repair on it and its been fine since. Earlier today the engine management light came on. The car still drives and sounds fine but i think it is that sensor making the light come on.

Anyway i heard its fine to leave that sensor out but i want to get some obd code reader software and cable to just check it out. Where abouts can i get the sofware and cable and could someone link me in the right direction. Had a look on ebay but wasnt sure which software and cable i need.

    Cheers guys

Once you sort out the sensor, the engine management light will turn off after a few drives. I wouldn't worry about it.

As for diagnostics, I use an ELM327. Should be able to get some free OBDII software for it from ScanTool.net.

Cool, yea just going to get the pipe welded up and get the sensor back in. Went to scantool.net and cant find any free software, i got obdwiz but it wants a serial key?

Is ELM327 the type of cable? I have a 2003 vtr btw.

Try this page for the software.

ELM327 is the unit (usually built into the cable). Should be able to get one off eBay fairly cheap - i.e. something like this. No doubt some will be better than others. Think I paid ~£30 for mine a few years ago, and it's been fine.
