was horsing the car down an overtaking lane. 4th gear 5k revs in the furio with 1.1 box. all off a sudden the revs drop to 3.5k in a split second then back to 5k then down then up again. the car didnt slow down or anything. and has been alright since

    just wondering wtf has happenied???

bit strange like, wonder if the fan kicked it but it would not dropped it down that many, plus it was moving

i went over a bump in the road but it was like on the opposite side of the top of the hill. i swear it was like an automatic changing into 5th and back again.

oh forgot to say im using 75w90 rather than 75w80. if that has caused something to slip

The ratio of engine speed to road speed is locked mechanicaly by what ever gear you are in. If it drops then it must be a fault with the rev counter or its signal. As mentoined before slipping clutch or wheels spinning would see the revs rise, not drop.

Also the fan starting up wpuld not knock down the revs unless you were idling. The revs drop because the alternator demands more power to run the fan and the engine is loaded up for a second until the idle control valve brings engine back up to the desired idle speed.

Maybe dirt in the fuel line which then cleared itself.

    Steve.
most sensible answer yet. and no im not stupid. the whole drivetrain is locked to the road yet the car did not slow when the revs dropped.

did not once say somethng slipped. always thought something to do with the engine like complete loss of power for a split second
