Whining (urgent)

   Right today, my car battery had enough, was with my uncle in his discovery who towed me to get the car bump started after about the 4th effort she fired, i just banged the clutch and boom, car started making a horriable whinning noise, this stops when the car is sationary, but once moving is awful the faster i go the louder and quicker the noise gets. When driving if i knock the car in to netural the noise continues. Im thinking either driveshaft or gearbox? please help..

   when rolling and clutch pressed in
   does it still make the noise?

   sounds like gearbox has let go, maybe diff. Hope for your sake its a driveshaft though can't see it myself

   yeah when clutch is in, still makes the noise

   yea would say something with box!
   
   doubt it would be a shaft though!

   just been out car goes into gear fine.. when clutch is depressed the noise is still there... anything to do with the gearbox the car will be sold for pennies

   thrust bearing on clutch? means new clutch is due

    My car does the same I would say thrust bearing or shafts.my shafts have play in them so having them replaced on monday if that doesn't sort it i no then its the thrust bearing

    what have you done to the poor car?
    
    It sounds like a driveshaft/diff or could be a wheel bearing (Wouldn't imagine so but you never know)
